| UPDATE! 22 Nov 2003 - The Talon was sold in August. The timing belt let go. Instead of buying a motor for it (new or used would have cost me more than I wanted to put into the car), I decided to get rid of it. I contacted a DSMer and he drove down from Maryland and took it off my hands. Since then, I've decided to get a new car, an high horsepower AWD car. Since there aren't many AWD cars, my choices are limited to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and the Subaru WRX STi. Infiniti's 2004 G35 Coupe comes in an AWD variant, although only in automatic transmission. I'm leaning strongly toward the STi, but will be soon test driving an Evolution. If I can get an Evo below invoice, I'll gladly take one off of Mitsu's hands, as the Subaru dealers are playing hardball, pricewise. Either way, I'll have a new AWD car in Feb. Stay tuned. This webpage will stay as is, since it still receives a decent amount of traffic. |

This is back, due to some requests to show the culprit in his true light -- Paul_Ward_away> sand niggers are everywhere [OK...here's an update to what's been happening in the Club DSM chatroom. I'm banned again...and again, its regarding something Dylan condones and supports. Go ahead, read it, I dare you...(as of 26 Mar 02)] For a direct link to irc.mdsog.net, click here. [Note: The above link won't work, as Dylan AKA Cadaver lost the domain. The link to the #dsm server and chatroom can be found in any Talon Digest or can be found on the Club DSM site. I'm not linking it here anymore, as I'm no longer offering Dylan any support. He's on his own.] This works with Windows systems but I'm not so sure about Linux systems. You click on the link and accept the download...don't worry, it's only a text file. Once it's downloaded, it will open up your IRC client and point directly to the above-mentioned server. Enjoy! (as of 17 Nov 01) The end of January 2002, I went flew back to CA to get my car then drove it back to Central TX. The first day, I made it to the other side of Tucson before it started snowing. The car handled great but visibility was very poor and I had to stop for the night in Benson. The next day, after awaiting for the sun to attempt to melt the ice on the road, I found that even after 9AM, the ice was still present in the hammer lane. I stayed out of that lane as much as I could but there were a lot of RVs to pass... again, the AWD did very well on the icy roads, even with the crappy tires I have. The second day, I made it as far as Stockton, TX. The next day was an easy trip since I was only 300 or so miles from my destination...made it home by 3PM. As I pulled into Killeen (my new home), the car began to idle a bit high and was revving up and down up to 1500 RPM. I figured I'd put some hard miles on it the last few days and figured it would stop after a good cooldown. Well, its 9 Feb and its still idling high. I tried to do the BISS adjustment using the BISS VFAQ but it didn't work. I did a bit of reading on the subject tonight and will clean the throttle body soon, and test the ISC and EGR. The cap that is 'supposed' to be on top of the BISS is missing, so maybe that's what's causing the idle probs ( per http://www.myzero.com/engine/surge.html#BISS. Based on the information on that page, my idle probs could be a number of things. Today I told myself, "Welcome back to the world of DSMs!" Heheh. (as of 9 Feb 02) UPDATE: I finally got my idle problem fixed. It took almost a year. I never found the time to fix my problem. The beninning of Jan, I was preparing to move to Virgina and didn't want car trouble while on the road, so I got a tune-up and did some maintenance. Well, they fixed the idle at the tune shop and I was on my way. I got to VA and the car started losing its idle again...the idle just kept rising. I couldn't figure it out and was planning to take the car to a shop to diagnose the problem. Then one day as I was driving home from work, the car started sputtering at stoplights and when on-boost, you could hear boost leak, even with windows closed. I got home and found the problem: the idle screw fell out. I couldn't find the screw and started calling dealer parts departments. I couldn't find a dealer that could help me that night, so I drove the car to work the next day, sputtering and all. Then, on a smokebreak, I decided to look under the hood again. When I did, I found the idle screw resting on the engine block. I couldn't reach it with the screwdriver I had, so I was fishing thru my pockets and saw a pack of gum...I chewed three sticks of gum, put the wad on the tip of the screwdriver, got the idle screw, screwed it in until it almost bottomed out, then turned on the car. The car then had a decent idle. All I had to do was screw it out a bit more until it was right at 900RPM. Now, the screw is still a bit loose but I now know how to fix the problem. I suppose I need the idle screw cap and maybe even the o-ring. I'm just happy I could finally fix the problem, although the tune shop that originally fixed the idle problem set the idle into the ECU correctly. (as of 17 Feb 03) |
